Carnivals
Antic Aroe, later Patras, was important merchant city in south Greece and member of Achai alliance.
In 429. BC during Pelopennese war before Patras sea battle occurred in which Athens fleet won the fleet of Corinth. Under Roman Empire (Colonia Augusta Aroe Patrensis) marine and merchant importance of Patras has increased even more, and the city of Patras coined it's own money. Patras is third largest Greek city and was declared European Capital of Culture in 2006. This beautiful city is placed in northern Peloponnese.
Symbol of the city is a replica of the city's emblematic old light-house and a view on the bridge that connects Peloponnese with mainland gives special experience.
Old part of the city with a fortress (in Antique times acropola was placed there) dominates through entire area.
Carnival starts on January 17th and is not a separate event, but variety of all kind of entertainment, such as balls, pursuit for hidden treasure, children's carnival, etc.
